Voice over - Rise of the footsoldier

Voice over analysis – Rise of the Footsoldier

If I analyse a voice over of a trailer then I feel we would be more confident on how we should do ours. When watching this one I noticed that there is the main character talking, other characters talking and a narrator talking. With a range of voices It could make the trailer more interesting. Extracts from the film have been put in the trailer as a voice over but the narrator does describe what the film is about. I feel if we have a voice over in ours, it could help describe the trailers storyline easier but I feel we should not have a voice over the throughout the whole of the trailer. Non- diegetic sounds like music are being played throughout the trailer. Diegetic sounds have been added when there is no-one speaking, e.g. weapons being used and cars crashing, this is a brilliant way of breaking up the trailer so the storyline is clearer.

Textual Analysis Empire Magzine

Textual analysis of Empire magazine cover

Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer consumer media. It is the biggest selling magazine in Britain, consistently outselling its nearest rival ‘Total film’. It has been running for 21 years and I have decided to analyse an Empire magazine cover so I could get a better Idea of what we need to include in ours.

The first thing you notice about this magazine cover is the picture. You can instantly recognize the genre of the film form the first impressions, which is action. This can be told by the codes and conventions of an action film, this is the gun, cut face, nice watch, face expression and the torn clothes. So one thing we must have in our magazine cover is the codes and conventions that give away our genre.

I also think that the titles/text and fonts play a major part in a good magazine cover. The title is in bold red writing which is eye-catching and above that there is some more text saying ‘James Bond is back’. This tells the audience that a new James Bond film has been made. With this it shows that the magazines main story will be about this film, therefore every magazine is unique and has a different story every month. Across the front part of the magazine it says ‘quantum of solace’, this is the name of the new film in a special grey font. This is very eye catching and matches the background very well so the text is not blurred. Underneath this it says ‘ inside the bloodiest bond ever’, this means that Daniel Craig has been interviewed and is exclusive inside this magazine. This is one thing we can consider, if we have an exclusive interview advertised on the magazine cover then it would be more eye catching.

The picture has been taken in the set, which means a background has not been added to it. This means the editing stage of the magazine cover will be easier as the picture looks better with its original background. The angle the photo has been taken at is also worth considering. The angle of this photo is a medium shot, this picture really does give off the effect that it was taken when it was filmed, which I feel would be better for us, e.g. if we had an action photo, like someone being chased.

In the bottom right hand corner of the poster there is a few add-on features, which are the other films that have been released that have been reviewed in the magazine. I feel if we have something like this, maybe a free poster, then I feel it would more eye catching.
